***** My Favorite of the Series
ByYvonne Reviewson May 23, 2016
Format: Kindle Edition
'This is the fifth book in the Belinda Lawrence series and the author has outdone himself with this one. With each book Belinda
becomes stronger and more developed as a character. Hazel is humorous and the perfect ally for Belinda. The two of them together
should not be underestimated. They are strong, smart and relentless in their pursuit of the truth. Okay, they do take some
unnecessary risks but that’s all part of the amateur sleuth package.
The storyline is intricately woven with historical events. There were a number of possible suspects, each with their own motive
for murder. It’s an engrossing, fast-paced read that keeps you guessing until the end. This series remind me very much
of the classic Agatha Christie mysteries, way before mysteries were classified as “cozies”. Brian Kavanagh writes
this genre to perfection.'

REVIEW QUOTES
I was lucky enough to get
a free copy of this book from the Author through Good Reads. I'm about half way through reading this book and I couldn't wait
to leave a review. This is a great book hard to put down. Just before I started reading this book I was reading the book written
by JK Rowling, The Cuckoo's Calling which is also a crime fiction book. I have got to say Brian Kavanagh's book is so much
better, well written, interesting, can't help loving the 2 main characters, Belinda and her friend Hazel. This book makes
me more disappointed in the Cuckoos Calling which has returned to my bookshelf only half read. Instead I will now be buying
all the other books in the Belinda Lawrence Mystery series. Thanks you Brian and please keep adding to this series.
'I think the author's decision to base this novel in his, and Belinda Lawrence's, home town of Melbourne is a very successful
one, as is his basing one of the plot lines on a piece of Melbourne's colourful history. It also considers the ever present
Republican debate, a very real Australian political divide.
A WICKED DESIGN is a well constructed cozy with a heroine who has grown in stature with every outing in this series. Belinda
Lawrence and her antique dealer friend Hazel Whitby are very realistically drawn, as is Belinda's fiance Mark Sallinger.'

Marvin Allan Williams (Fayetteville, North Carolina) This review is from: A Wicked Design: A Belinda Lawrence Mystery (Kindle
Edition)
This was the best of the Belinda Lawrence Mysteries so far. Historical treasure unearthed, relational intrigue, humor, and
of course no mystery would be complete without a dead body or two.
P.S. I'm growing quite fond of Hazel.

I absolutely love this series and A Wicked Design did not disappoint. The best so far. Character development is a plus. I'd
share a few drinks with Hazel anytime.

***** Five Stars: Each novel by Brian Kavanagh gets better and better, but A Wicked Design… is certainly the best of
all his works. Intense, complex plots with unpredictable characters interact so that the reader will have to read this novel
in one or two sittings, as it’s very, very hard to put down once it’s started. There’s also a nice touch
of history and its symbolic value in government that’s informative and intriguing as well! All in all - very nicely
done, Brian Kavanagh!

***** A Wicked Design by Brian Kavanagh, September 18, 2013 By Betty Sullivan La Pierre (Sunnyvale, CA United States)
This review is from: A Wicked Design (a Belinda Lawrence Mystery) (Paperback)
Brian Kavanagh has done it again. Another great mystery "A WICKED DESIGN" starring Belinda Lawrence and Hazel Whitby. After
learning of the death of a very dear friend and ex-boyfriend of Belinda, the two women set a goal to find out why he was murdered
and by whom.

;A precious trophy from the 19th century, used by the Parliament, is found, then lost, then found again. Meanwhile bodies
fall to left and right, and the dauntless female detectives are hot on the trail of the criminals. Hazel Whitby and Belinda
Lawrence are nicely juxtaposed as characters (Hazel with her fondness for gin and younger escorts; Belinda a thoroughly nice
young thing.) I'm not a great detective myself, but I have enjoyed Brian Kavanagh's books as a relaxing and at times very
amusing read. A dry sense of humour is frequently evident, keeping the book out of the gruesome category. I will be reading
the next book by this author.

The fifth adventure with Belinda Lawrence was well worth the wait. This story takes place in Australia and brings with it
a sense of adventure and suspense. From the insidious hook at the beginning to the solution of the mystery one is treated
to a rare visit to Melbourne and some of its most interesting sites. A delightful tale with a vacation into the mix. I sincerely
recommend this book for anyone who would like to spend some time following a bit of history in a fresh arena.

Trying to make contact with the victim's family, Belinda is immersed into the new civil war between the Roundheads and Cavaliers.
What has a proposed Dome being added to the House of Parliament have to do with the victim? Who are the strange mourners at
the funeral and what are their connection to the deceased? Encountering retired music hall entertainers, colourful antique
dealers, a gregarious Major, and more has Belinda and Hazel twirling. The most alarming? What is Belinda's fiancé, Mark Sallinger
involvement? This novel's storyline was complex and filled with surprises for the reader.

Read from October 28 to November 09, 2013.
'I enjoy Brian Kavanagh’s books – each one is well-written with believable plots, historical facts, suspense and
humour. In fact Brian’s talent is being able to skilfully weave true history, legend and fiction into one story. In
A WICKED DESIGN the elements of the English Civil War between the Roundheads and Cavaliers has been brought to Australia.
Trouble is how does it connect to Brad’s murder? And will being a suspect affect the relationship between Belinda and
Mark? And will the wonderfully uninhibited Hazel ever settle down – and do we want her too? More murders occur before
all is eventually revealed in an unexpectedly hot finale in a beautiful setting.'
